There are some "actual" geeks living underfoot near Berlin as well. That is, I'm a web software developer who lives in the Pines and works with, via the internet, a team of similar individuals. If you follow my link, you can see some of our work.

No project is too small.

If anyone in/around Berlin could use some expert web development assistance, please do look me up. While we often create web applications for "web 2.0" startups, I'd love for us to find organizations in Worcester County to assist.

Cheers,
Evan

Comment on Pets with “BENEFITS” in our neighborhood! by Elizabeth

I am the Ann Drive resident who is fighting to keep my pet birds, and I can tell you that this whole mess is actually a neighbor vendetta rather than legitimate noise complaints. To begin with, the people who are complaining are not my closest neighbors. Those who live on each side of me and directly in back of me have told me that my birds never make enough noise to disturb them (I've asked them about this several times), so it's a real mystery as to why would it bother anyone who lives two or three houses down, or at the end of the street. Also the person who cuts my grass didn't even know there were birds behind my fence. I've had these birds on my property for the past two years and NOT ONE PERSON has ever approached me directly with a complaint of any kind, not until the night of my hearing. I don't know about you, but if noise from a neighbor's house was keeping me awake at all hours of the night I sure wouldn't wait TWO YEARS before complaining about it! These people could have easily contacted me directly if they wanted to, as they've been watching me for quite some time and have seen me working in my yard to correct the numerous code violations brought on in part by their snooping around my property. And yes, I was well aware that my property needed some work but honestly knew nothing about codes or code violations until this ordeal (too busy working and living my life). To make matters worse, I'm now considered a non-resident because I stay with my 89-year old mother during the night-time hours. Otherwise she would be in a nursing home due to several years of blindness and multiple strokes. I actually spend as much time at my Ann Drive residence as anywhere else, regardless of what anyone says. There are no rats on my property; the only vermin are the humans who can't read signs. My birds are properly housed and cared for, including routine veterinary care. They have a better life than I do. It's pathetic that the town government has not only sided with these neighborhood bullies, but have actually become bullies themselves. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I know it's somewhat lengthy, but there is more than one side to this story. The treatment I've received is beyond appalling, and I really have had enough of always being made to look like the bad guy.

Ms. Beaman:

Excuse the note as a comment here, but I couldn't find a private way to contact you.

My name is Liz Viall, and I am a doctoral candidate in the School of Journalism at Indiana University. I am currently working on a dissertation about citizen journalism sites across the United States and would like to talk to you about your Everything Berlin MD site.

Might we schedule a telephone interview to talk about your site and online journalism practices? I believe your insights would add value to my research, and I would enjoy talking to you about citizen journalism. The interview will take 10 to 15 minutes.

I am scheduling interviews beginning next Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon, but can certainly call you at another time if you prefer. Thank you for your time. If you can participate, I will send you a study information sheet - or please send me an email address, and I'll mail it right away.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Viall

Sue:

While surfing the blogosphere this morning, I tripped across your Berlin MD Blog. Though I'm from the upper end of the Peninsula, I had an interesting and insightful visit to your site. Thanks for putting the effort into creating such a quality product. I'm sure it provides a service to local readers trying to obtain more understanding and also different views and angles on Berlin.

What we find here is that legacy media just doesn't cover local happenings very well, especially at the municipal level, and when they do you often need other perspectives to figure out what happened.

Keep up the quality work. You've got an excellent product here. I'll surf over periodically to check out everything Berlin, MD.

We visit Berlin a few times each year to shop and enjoy those trips, especially when we have the opportunity dine and/or stay at the Atlantic Hotel.

BTW, what template are you using? It looks great.
