The history of any town development requires a beginning, a center if you will…in Berlin the center is named Main Street or Maryland State Route 818. Our Main Street begins insignificantly in the north at U.S. Route 113, quickly crosses U.S. Route 50 and runs a short 2.5 miles to rejoin U.S. Route 113 at the south end. Along its path farm fields may be seen alongside examples of late Victorian architecture; magnificent period homes, a 3 short block long Historic Commercial District including a lovingly restored hotel, quaint shops and restaurants, a library, Churches, Berlin’s excellent Fire Department and homes of more modest early-to-mid 20th century Eastern Shore design interspersed with more contemporary structures. In other words, it’s diverse! On the streets branching off of Main even more diversity is found. Nevertheless, from this center for over 150 years, strong and proud community neighborhoods have been created. Come, explore and enjoy our charming and diverse Town of Berlin MD!
